Again the organs of perception were touched, and lo!
above and around me, and far in the distance, were passing and repassing
with the quickness of thought, spirits of pure light.
The name of all names in perpetual becoming
Is Christ the Almighty, empyrean giver
Eternally flowing, this heavenly river
Lights all of creation’s epiphany humming
Down hillsides through valleys translucent in splendor
Free-flowing, unbounded the waters are ringing
As messengers ever returning to sender
Go forth on their missions in limitless singing
God’s name is the key – hidden even from angels;
His waters, in wrath, turn to brimstone and blood
Laying waste to our dwellings by juggernaut flood
But the houses on rock, still receiving His signals
Endure by the ruins where churches once stood
(All reduced now to wreckage – our idols are wood).
