Down for the Count

Here’s one to get you IN THE MOOD.

Bela Lugosi’s Dead by Bauhaus (1979)

White on white translucent black capes
Back on the rack
Bela Lugosi’s dead.

The bats have left the bell tower / The victims have been bled
Red velvet lines the black box
/ Bela Lugosi’s dead…

Bela Lugosi’s dead  –
Undead, undead, undead…

The virginal brides file past his tomb
Strewn with time’s dead flowers
Bereft in deathly bloom / Alone in a darkened room
: The Count

Bela Lugosi’s deadBela Lugosi’s dead... Bela Lugosi’s dead
(
Undead, undead, undead…)

Belas batsYes – this is lowbrow poetry…
It seems silly 30 years later. But I like the  Reggae-Dub rimshots
and the freaky-spooky vibe. Sort of a funereal Bossa-Nova going on…
(I had this poster of Bela Lugosi on my bedroom wall as a kid.)
