Monthly Trouble

Marching toward April, poets may
Come late—or else arrive too soon.
So write them off. They have their day
And then they decompose by June.

So snowdrops spring to early flower
Long before the others bloom . . .
Bright with primaveral power
Hailing life—and then, the tomb.

  1. I love this one, it is impeccable metre- and rhyme-wise, and the contrasts are striking. “primaveral power” is genius, I feel very tempted to use the word ‘primaveral’ myself now, but that would be cheating. :)
