What does that mean? Well, it means to try to translate the poem
simply based on how it sounds.
Thanks for the laugh! Misheard lyrics are always a delight! There was this song everywhere a couple of years back, and it drove me insane that I only understood the chorus — I kept thinking “they are on the way down to where? What’s going on?” Then somebody pointed out that it was German, not English — and the mystery was (kind of!) solved…it’s not a way down, their feet are hurting. The horror!
